Since my biggest complaint with the embedded games was the loss of pop up game windows, I’d be remiss if I didn’t join the parade of folks thanking you (Pogo) for putting them back.
I’m a happy camper! Now, I know there’s a hot shot engineer at Pogo that’s going to figure out how to do the same for those new games! … lol
Anyway … Kudos to all involved!
SCRABBLE Ranks More Fluff than Fun!
I’m writing on behalf of my 68-year-old mother. She’s been a Club Pogo member for several years and absolutely LOVES SCRABBLE. She ranked out on it long ago, so she was delighted that you added more ranks. Imagine her disappointment, then, when she logged in and saw that she had automatically been given the new ranks and badges.
What is the point in adding more ranks and badges if you’re going to give them out automatically? Mom was really upset to see that she wasn’t given a chance to actually work for the new badges; I feel so bad for her. Is there anything you can do to make things right for her?
Editor: Sorry about that! Unfortunately, different games work differently, and while we prefer to release new ranks to games and have everyone earn them, there are some games where that’s not possible, and SCRABBLE is one of those games. It comes down to whether or not the ranks will have an effect on any of the game’s statistics. In the case of SCRABBLE, it would have caused some issues with the stats, so when we launched the game, it automatically ranked everyone up. In World Class Solitaire, for example, that’s not the case, so when ranks are added to that game players are able to earn them as if they’re new.
Fly Away Fairies!
For some time I had “flying fairies” which I really liked.
However I just spent about 1 hour searching and searching for them in the Mini Mall to no avail! Any suggestion for what I can do please?
Editor: Alas – the “Flying Fairies” were part of a Mini Bundle – The Atlantis Mermaid/Atlantis Poseidon Bundle – and were unfortunately misconfigured and ended up in everyone’s closet. We fixed the configuration, and now you can get the Flying Fairies by purchasing the bundle.
How Many Tokens?
I was wondering, if you can add up all the tokens people have ever won on Pogo? It’ll be interesting.
Thank you for a great site.
Editor: At this moment there are exactly 12,312,993,221,293,098,231,981,374 toke – er – make that “reasons” why I can’t fulfill this request! The token total goes up by the minute, and there’s just no way to get an accurate count. Sorry! But you can be sure that there are at least a gazillion or two out there.
Diamond Jubilee a Big Deal Across the Globe!
Hi there, Mr. Editor!
I live in America, and I’m thrilled to bits at the pop-out change to the embedded games. I love Pogo. I love all the creative ideas you have, the amazing mini-mall items, the games, the contests, and all the other things I haven’t mentioned. I have fun on the site every single day. You’re wonderful!
That said, I do have to support the UK member who expressed disappointment at the small recognition of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. This really is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and the events were watched by kazillions of people around the world (oh, all right – so I’m maybe exaggerating just a teensy bit!). And remember – the Queen is actually the titular head of state of about a third of this planet, thanks to the Commonwealth! I really do think Pogo could have done more than give us two goodies in recognition of that event, especially with all the members you are now deservedly garnering around the world. We get soooooo much for July 4th. There’s so much dire news these days – the Jubilee celebrations were a small gem of joy. You did drop the ball just a little bit – c’mon, admit it!!!!
I still love you! Pogo rocks!
The UK Should Not Be Treated as Poor Cousins
I am not usually one for making a fuss and it takes a lot to provoke me. I always try to be fair minded and only offer my opinion when asked for it. However, today I feel I must stand up and make myself heard.
Whilst anxiously awaiting the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee here in England I was also eagerly anticipating the wonderful surprises that Pogo would produce for us all to help celebrate. I am always in awe of the very talented artists and felt sure we would be presented with some masterpieces. I am sure you can imagine my immense disappointment when I rushed to the Mini Mall and found only two small items. Not even a re-release from previous selections were offered. As I really liked the two items available, I decided that instead of kicking up a fuss, I would gratefully accept them and even gifted them to friends.
I saw that many others were very unhappy with the small release and this got me to thinking that maybe someone would write to you and then I would be able to read your comments. OH MY! I was thoroughly shocked at what you said! I interpreted the general gist as being that because you have so many more players from America, they get preferential treatment and so more items for their celebrations.
I feel I must inform you that despite us coming from our small little island with so few Pogo players in comparison, MANY players from Canada, Australia AND America were also very disappointed at the lack of items to celebrate our very special event. You see although you have more US players, we ALL love a good mini release no matter what country we are from and the Diamond Jubilee was celebrated WORLD WIDE. I have many American friends who were envious of my actually being here in the UK and so able to take part in the festivities.
Now even this was not enough to provoke me into writing to you. What has really tipped the scales is the fact that today, I signed into Pogo as saw I had been sent a gift. How very kind! However, I then find that on the American site, there had been the release of a very cute squirrel limited edition mini item and … some old Father’s Day items from previous years. On the UK site… no Father’s day items!
As we too celebrate our fathers this coming Sunday, I was astounded to see that once again us Brits have been overlooked. This exact thing happened in November of last year too on Remembrance Day, you released items for Veterans day on the US site but not anything for us on the UK site. I feel that Pogo is alienating anyone who is not American and that in doing so is causing many of us to predict that the UK site will be the next to closed down. If you truly do “appreciate our UK Pogo players” it’s time to stop treating us as the poorer cousins and treat ALL Pogo players equally.
Editor: Thanks for your letters. I received plenty of feedback from people from all over the world admonishing me for my lack of sensitivity to this issue, and looking back, I see that I did not communicate very well.
We definitely missed the boat on the Diamond Jubilee, and I do regret that we didn’t offer a greater variety of items.
The Father’s Day oversight was a configuration error, as we had fully intended to release the same items on both sites. We apologize profusely for that.
For the US players who may be wondering – Pogo recently announced the closure of our French and German sites. These were Free Pogo sites that, unfortunately, did not generate enough traffic to remain viable, so we will be closing them in August.
However, those closures have nothing to do with the UK site which has a large and vibrant community.
We will definitely need to be more cognizant of our neighbors across the pond in future Mini releases.
Pogo on Kindle Fire!
Yippee!!! I was so excited when Pogo released an Android version of the Pogo app. Then my excitement was crushed when I discovered it wasn’t yet available with the Kindle Fire. Every week I have been faithfully checking the Amazon app site and today my persistence was rewarded.
The Pogo app is finally available for the Kindle Fire (as of June 7th). My only disappointment is that I’ve lost 4 days of playing potential.
Way to go Pogo!!!!!

Please Only Make Challenges in Games *I* Like!
I think it is very unfair that we have to play games we “HATE”. I hate pool, chess and checkers!!!
Yet to get my Badge for completing the year badges – I MUST PLAY THESE SUCKIE GAMES!
I will not get my badge this year, last year and the year before that because you people do not think.
Editor: Because we “don’t think”? I don’t know… thinking? Sounds hard. Really hard. Maybe even harder than providing Challenges in games that every single Pogo player on the planet likes.
Just Play the Game!
While browsing the new summer items in the Mini Mall, I clicked on the description for the organic earth shorts (in the ladies’ section). The shorts were listed as being “died using natural-based colors.” Perhaps spell-check missed this, but it should obviously be “dyed” as the shorts are colored not deceased. Additionally, “stylistally” is not a word recognized by dictionary.com.
Pogo is a great site and I enjoy being a Club Pogo member. I hate to see little errors like this cropping up and putting the site in a bad light.
Editor: DOH! That was my mistake. I also messed up a “your/you’re” in last week’s Letters to the Editor prompting one letter to ask “Who edits the editor?” And, well, as you can see, YOU do!
I will have these two boo-boos fixed as soon as possible.
Explain the ’5-min. game’ Behind Aces!
Did I miss something in the Pogo news? What is meant by “5-min. game” shown after the listing for Aces Up? Just curious.
Editor: Well, not everything makes the news! We did begin adding little notations next to certain games, and the “5-min. game” was put there to communicate to folks that if they’re looking for a quick game, this is can be played in about 5 minutes (or less).
Where’s the Cactus Quartet Badge?
It’s been about two months since the Cactus Quartet Mix-n-Match badge disappeared from everyone’s MnM albums. Any idea when it will be fixed?
Editor: Thanks for the reminder! We’ll make sure that it gets back where it should be.
Love the New Jungle Gin Background!
What a nice surprise!
Went to play a game of Jungle Gin and I see a new background. At first wondered why there was a beach setting when it’s called “Jungle” Gin. But then thought, “just because it is a jungle, doesn’t mean it can’t have a beach”.
Poor bot or opponent will be standing on a branch of a tree in the sun while I’m standing comfy on the deck in the shade. (That fruit looks good on the table nearby.) LOL
It did seem weird to me when I heard the music for “Crossword Cove” at the beginning and end. But I’ll get used to it.
Were there any other games that POGO changed? Just wondering. (I haven’t wondered through too many games since the update on Tuesday.)
mmklima (having fun in POGO land for many years)
Don’t Love the New Jungle Gin Background!
Just the other day I went to play Jungle Gin, and boy was I surprised! … a totally new background for the game of Jungle Gin.
And I hate to tell you this, but I don’t like it. The name of the game is Jungle Gin, not Bahama Bay Gin, or Caribbean Gin, but JUNGLE Gin. If you wanted to change the background, you still could have done a jungle theme.
And what’s up with the short musical clip that not only foolishly repeats itself, but tries to play when the wheel is spinning… I guess it is supposed to sound like some carribean steel drums, but it is truly horrible!
And the whole time you can still hear the sounds of the jungle… monkeys and birds chattering… you really goofed this time.
Editor: Glad that mmklima likes it, and sorry that BigSyssy doesn’t. The “new” look is only temporary – it’s a seasonal change to celebrate summer and it won’t be there for too long. It’s near the ocean, near a jungle, thus the sounds. And there is a bug at the moment with the musical clip repeating itself. That should be fixed very soon. We haven’t changed any other games… yet! Stay tuned!
