Letters to Ed: MJ Safari Ranks, Paralympics, Acronyms, AOL Issues and MORE!

Ridiculously Ecstatic Over New Mahjong Safari Ranks

Dear Editor~

I would like to thank those who decided to add more ranks to Mahjong Safari. I have been a HUGE fan of the game since day one, but ranked out quickly. Now I have a renewed reason to play. My only fear is that these 20 new ranks will also go by too quickly. Regardless, I am happy dancing! Thank you all for the update & hope to see more favorites updated soon.

The Mini Mall that Pogo Forgot?

Ahem… it’s been awhile since you’ve released anything new. The last release was August 16th, and those were “hand-me-downs” from previous releases… any chance of seeing some new ‘regular clothes”… not monster themed… or circus themed… no sky-divers or contortionists… just everyday  jeans, tops, sweaters & jackets?

I’ll be on the lookout…Thanks!

Loyal Clotheshog

Editor: You won’t have to wait long! Check out the Mini Mall tomorrow!

Big Cirque Du Spooky Questions…

Dear Editor,

I slightly remember playing spooky slots long ago… what happened to it?

Also, could we please have some cirque du flea and big city adventure badges please?!!?!

Thank you,

A Club Pogo Member

Editor: Spooky Slots will be back soon enough – it’s a seasonal game that we put up on the site around Halloween. As for your Cirque Du Flea and Big City Adventures requests – look for a Big City Adventure badge in the nearish future, and I’ll let the Badge Folk know that there’s been a request for Cirque Du Flea.

Clear Your Java Cache, Too!

Hello,

Can you remind people that not only does clearing your cache of all the unwanted temporary files on the computer, you must also clear your java cache which is different from clear your regular cache.

Here is the link to clearing the java cache which is on Pogo: https://help.ea.com/article/java-help-and-information#2

Editor: Thanks so much for the reminder! I’m sure this should help a few folks!

Enough With the Olympic Bowling!

Tahd, Tahd, Tahd…

Okay, so I know you’re not in charge of the bowling game… but in your latest blurb, someone complains about the ugly bowling displays… and the answer is that it will be fixed in a couple of weeks… WHAT?  That should have been removed the day after the Olympics were over!   Grrrr, shaking my head…

The engineer responsible for that abomination should now be sitting at the front desk checking ID’s… lol

Oh, and a belated ‘Happy Birthday’… I was supposed to know that date? lol

Pasta

Editor: We *were* all a little distraught that everyone else remembered to send us a card except for you. Thanks for finally getting around to it. ;)

As for the Bowling Olympics, as of about 3:30PM today, the game has been switched back. And I do owe an apology, but believe it or not, it’s not to you! Read on, my favorite carbohydrate…

Don’t Forget the Paralympics!

Psst – In case you haven’t heard – the Olympics are still on

Come on – get away from your computer and see what is going on in the world.

In London, the Olympics are still on  – the Paralympics still has a few days to run – and the USA has even got a team.

To dismiss this as you did in your letters last week is insulting to the paralympians who are competing.

So come on – get behind your team and support them.

Regards

Crystalsupreme

Editor: Indeed, I wasn’t fully aware of the Paralympics, and I do apologize.

Perhaps Pogo Needs a “Cultural Attache”

Dear Tahd,

I saw in your letters that someone complained that the items for the Olympics were still on sale in the Mini Mall, and you responded that the items remain there long after the closing ceremony.

Oh PLEASE.  For your information, the Olympics are still going. It is now the turn of the Paralympics, and surprisingly America has sent a team to London and is competing.  Is this not on your news ?- or is it because it is the Olympics for disabled people so you just don’t give it any attention?

I seriously think that Pogo should employ a  “Cultural Attache” just to keep abreast of what is going on in the world outside of America, Pogo’s  recent mess ups make them look stupid – really really stupid!

Yours

A UK player

Editor: Again, I do apologize. The Paralympics does not make as much of a splash here as the Olympics, although it does appear on most of the News sites.

While I am embarrassed that I personally did not keep up with this, I am impressed by the amount of e-mail I received from Pogo players letting me know about them! And it’s not just folks from the UK.  Read on for just a few of the many I received…

Paralympics Happening Now!

Dear Editor,

Your current design in the POGO Bowl game is still appropiate because the Paralympic

Games are on now.

Keep the Olympic Theme Until After Paralympics!

Dear Editor,

I was saddened to read the letter last week asking that Pogo minis be removed as the Olympics are over. Has the sender not heard of the Paralympics? These are taking place in London as I write and are being watched by thousands live and by millions on the tv. Please keep these backgrounds etc available until after ALL the Olympics have finished.

Yours,

Tuftytwo

When the Olympics End, the Paralympics Begin!

This is regarding the letter to the editor last week complaining about the Olympic theme still being there, saying the Olympics were over.  It is a shame that you missed this perfect opportunity to mention that the Paralympics began this week in London at the same venues.

Susan

EWTA!!!! (Enough With The Acronyms)

I have to admit it… I’m younger than a large majority of people on Pogo.

However, it is 2012 and most people can type at least 60 wpm.  I’m SO tired of reading random letters in every chat.  So tired that I’ve begun turning my chat feature OFF!

Maybe I can blame it on growing up with computers and smartphones that let me type words in their entirety and not just the first letter (or in some cases a number) however, the days of ASL and TTYL are long gone.  Why didn’t HAGD and GG follow the rest of them?  Is it really going to take that much longer to type a few more letters?

I spend more time trying to figure out what the first letters of the words are and where they are on my keyboard to type out a random acronym…  Let alone the time I spend tying to understand what other people are saying.  Maybe we should all start typing in 1337!  That’s “leet” for those of us still stuck in 1999 ” >=[

Editor: Yowza, *someone* has an opinion! Well, my darling, the good news is that some people do use full sentences. The bad news is that those who don’t are not likely to stop any time soon.

So, I recommend that perhaps you get used to it and when you’re confronted with an acronym you don’t recognize, you can always consult the 2012 Pogo Players Guide to Netspeak

Switching to IE from AOL Isn’t Helping!

I don’t understand why after all the years I’ve been a loyal member of Pogo are we now having problems with the games and the chats.  I have to leave AOL and sign onto Pogo via Internet Explorer.  I keep getting the message that Java needs to load when I use AOL but not on Explorer – so what gives?  Is this a problem of AOL, of Pogo or?   And why can’t it get fixed- I know I”m not alone in this so please what suddenly happened?

Editor: Oracle updated their browser detection javascript with apparently does not correctly recognize the AOL browser.

You can check out the bug here. We are working with the contacts we have to get an update on when this might get fixed, and we will let you know when we do.
Until then, you may have to uninstall the latest version of Java (from your Control Panel, you’ll need to click “Add/Remove” Programs, and remove whatever Java you have there). And then download this version of Java.
Then, you should be able to play with IE, Google Chrome or Firefox. I’ve also heard from a few players that they use the Opera Browser and have had no problems with it – but that’s not a browser that we officially support, so keep that in mind. :)

One More on Bejeweled Twist Challenge

Hello

Never thought I’d write to you but I just don’t understand people. When this challenge came out I did not know how to get a fruit. After a few attempts of trying, I decided to see if others were having the same problem. So into the forums I go. Guess what? Several people had posted how to achieve this challenge, some even posted screen by screen directions. Well low and behold after spending about 5 minutes reading I tried it again. It took about 1/2 and hour to get my badge. If people had taken the time to read just a little bit they would have had no problems.

It’s a shame to see all those complaints when just a little investigative reading would have solved the mystery.

Tired of complaints.

Pogo Appreciation and Tourney Tips!

Hello!

I hope this letter is encouraging, because a lot of times I see more frustration than jubilation in the letters to the editor. First I just want to express my appreciation for Pogo… the value, service and quality.

I have gotten frustrated with Pogo a few times over the years, but that will happen with anything we humans put our efforts into. Overall, for the value, Pogo has been one of the best investments in entertainment I have ever made. It is one of the few companies I know of which continues to provide such familial care to its customers.

I think you get a lot more flack than appreciation, so I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am for this site. I don’t see where anyone can really complain too much, as you offer pretty much anything anyone could ask for in gaming variety. Also, the appreciation Pogo shows its customers is astounding to me. Where else does the company give you thank you gifts on your anniversary with them, and wish you a happy birthday? What other sites allow you to cover some or all of your membership costs with Coke points and the like?

For my money, Pogo is the best entertainment value I can find.

I also wanted to provide some help for “Nic”, who was having a hard time finding a tourney league. MyLeague.com is the most popular site I know of for tournament leagues. It not only has Pogo games but (don’t smack me, Pogo!) other game sites as well, though I think their main thing is Pogo tourneys.

They have tourneys for nearly every game Pogo offers. They run twenty-four hours a day, and you can find all kinds of groups, from ferocious, hard-core DCR players to social, chatty Jungle Gin rooms. It really caters to whatever you like. They have prizes and it’s really a wholly social site. I hope this helps… because I would hate to think of someone quitting our fabulous Pogo because they can’t seem to find a tourney when they are abundant.

Good luck to Nic, and happy playing to all my Pogo neighbors out there!

Thanks so much,

Lovin’ me some Pogo

Editor: And thank YOU for such an awesome letter. I’ve passed your positive comments to the folks here, and I’m sure that “Nic” and others will appreciate the information on tournaments.
